David Michael Scott

Through his fervor for expanding the minds of both young and old, David Michael Scott has created two synergistic businesses, Elite Math Tutors and Fire Heart Adventures.  David has an extensive education background, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Outdoor Education from Idaho State University and a Master’s Degree in Secondary Mathematics Education from the University of Colorado at Boulder.  He is a licensed high school math teacher with 20 years of teaching experience and 10 years of math tutoring experience including pre-algebra through calculus, GRE, SAT, and ACT prep.  He has hands-on experience working with youth struggling with Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD and Mood Disorders. He spent several years working with at-risk youth attending a wilderness therapy program in Southern Utah as well as economically disadvantaged youth during his time in the Peace Corps.  David has lived all over the world and is proficient in three languages. He is thrilled to combine his passions for teaching and playing in the wilderness with his work life.

Laura Platte

Laura Platte graduated from CU Boulder with a BA in Mathematics in May 2013. After which, she taught 8th grade mathematics for two years in Cherry Creek at Horizon Middle School. Laura currently teach full time middle school and high school math courses at Sheridan School District. Laura completed her Masters in Curriculum and Education for Secondary Mathematics at CU Denver in December, 2016. Laura Platte is passionate about student coaching. Before pursuing mathematics, Laura worked for years as a gymnastics coach. This experience taught her the ability to work with students and families beyond the classroom. Laura's teaching philosophy emphasizes discovering what students know and connecting it to what they need to know. Laura's hobbies include music and athletics; playing the guitar, the piano, and singing as well as  practice yoga, and weight lifting.
